The oil mist lubricating device uses compressed air as power to atomize the oil, i.e. to produce a kind of dry oil mist with particle size less than 2μm like smoke, which is then transported to the lubricating part through pipelines. Before the oil mist enters the lubricating point, an element called a "condensing nozzle" is used to make the oil mist become large and moist oil particles, which are then thrown to the friction surface for lubrication. Compressed air and some tiny oil mist particles are discharged to the atmosphere through sealing gaps or special exhaust holes.
Oil mist lubrication is suitable for lubrication of closed gears, worm gears, chains, sliding plates, guide rails and various bearings. At present, oil mist lubrication devices are widely used in large, high-speed, heavy-duty rolling bearings in metallurgical enterprises (e.g. backup roller bearings of offset 8-high cold rolling mills).
Compared with other lubrication methods, oil mist lubrication has many unique advantages:
1. Oil mist can diffuse to all friction parts needing lubrication with compressed air. Good and even lubrication effect can be obtained;
A compressed air is small in specific heat and high in flow rate, so it is easy to take away the heat generated by friction.
B, greatly reducing the consumption of lubricating oil.
C, the thinner oil circulation lubrication system has simple structure; Lightweight, small floor area, low power consumption, convenient maintenance and management, easy realization of automatic control and low cost;
D, because the oil mist has a certain pressure, it can play a good sealing role and prevent external impurities, moisture and the like from invading the friction pair.
2. However, oil mist lubrication also has some shortcomings. Attention should be paid to the following points when selecting:
A. The discharged compressed air contains a small amount of suspended oil particles, which pollutes the environment and is harmful to the health of operators. Therefore, it is necessary to add an air draft and fog discharge device.
B, should not be used on motor bearings. Because oil mist intrudes into the motor winding, the insulation performance will be reduced and the service life of the motor will be shortened.
C, oil mist transmission distance should not be too long, generally within 30m is more reliable, the longest shall not exceed 80m;
D, must have a set of compressed air system.
Due to the above shortcomings of oil mist lubrication, its application range is limited to a certain extent. However, its unique advantages are incomparable to other lubrication methods. Therefore, it will be more and more widely used in metallurgical equipment.
